Production Facilities

Pioneer Wheels & Clastors have all the facilities to conceive, design & manufacture a wide range of wheels & castors. Pioneer Wheels & Clastors have computer aided design stations. Toolings are manufactured in our own tool room and machine shop. Pioneer Wheels & Clastors have mechanical & hydraulic presses for manufacture of all pressed components & brackets. Life of rubber tyre depends very much on the rubber compound. To keep continuous check on quality of rubber, we manufacture rubber tyres inhouse. For that purpose we have full fledge rubber shop with mixing mills and hydraulic rubber moulding presses. Polymer wheels are also manufactured inhouse on compression moulding presses and injection moulding machine. Ample stock of all the variety of wheels, brackets and other components is maintained for effecting quick deliveries.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF WHEELS

wheels

COMPRESSED RUBBER WHEEL (CR)
(Range : 50 x 22 mm. To 150 x 40 mm.) Good quality hard rubber compound is compression moulded in the form of wheel. Nylon bushing is provided at the centre for smooth rotation of wheel. The rubber hardness is maintained at a higher level in order that the wheel does not deform under load but at the same time, soft-cushioning effect is not lost. Hardness of rubber : (85 + 5) on Shore A scale Maximum working temperature : 50°C

wheels

SOLID RUBBER TYRE WHEEL (SRT)
(Range : 100 x 32 mm. To 300 x 75 mm.) The wheel consists of Solid Rubber Tyre clamped between two pressed steel drums with bolts and nuts. Tyre is made from good quality rubber compound to ensure long life and good cushioning effect. The tyre, when worn out, can be replaced easily on sight. Hardness of rubber : (85 + 5) on Shore A scale Maximum working temperature : 50°C

wheels

BONDED RUBBER TYRE WHEEL (BRT)
(Range : 75 x 25 mm To 300 x 100 mm) A good quality rubber compound bonded (moulded) over a cast iron rim forms a Bonded Rubber Tyre wheel. The load carrying capacity as well as life of wheel is much more than that of SRT wheel. Casting can be returned back to us for rebonding of rubber when it is worn out. Hardness of rubber : (75 + 5) on Shore A scale Grade of casting : FG 200 as per IS-210 Maximum working temperature : 50°C

wheels

HARD POLYMER WHEEL (HP-1)
(Range : 75 x 25 mm To 300 x 100 mm) (Range : 50 x 25 mm To 300 x 75 mm) These are manufactured from virgin Ultra High Molecular Weight Poly Ethylene (UHMW-PE) powder, white in colour. The wheels are light in weight but have very high load carrying capacity, higher wear resistance as well as high impact strength. Therefore the question of wheel cracking under shock or impact load does not arise, as it happens in case of nylon or fiber wheels. The material has got very low coefficient of friction. Therefore, pulling or pushing force required is considerably less. The material does not have any effect of chemicals or acids. Therefore, HP-1 wheels are most suitable in chemical, pharmaceutical & food industries. Though the HP-1 wheels can carry heavy loads, the material is not hard like cast iron. Therefore HP-1 wheels do not damage the flooring. HP-1 wheels do not stain the flooring as it sometimes happens in case of black rubber tyred wheels.

wheels

HP-1 WHEEL WITH METAL INSERT FOR BALL BEARING.
As the HP-1 material has got very low coefficient of friction, ball bearing has tendency to rotate in the step bore. To avoid this, metal insert is pressed in the wheel. The metal insert has step bore suitable for ball bearing. Hardness of wheel : (75 + 5) on Shore D scale Maximum working temperature : 70°C

wheels

POLY PROPELENE WHEEL (PP)
(Range : 40 x 20 mm To 150 x 40 mm) These wheels are manufactured from virgin Poly Propelene Co-Polymer (PPCP), white in colour, by injection moulding. The wheels are light in weight but have fair load carrying capacity. The acidic or alkaline chemicals have no effect on these wheels. Hardness of wheel : (70 + 5)on Shore D scale Maximum working temperature : 50°C

wheels

FIBRE WHEEL (FBR)
(Range : 75 x 32 mm To 200 x 50 mm) Fibre wheels are manufactured by compression moulding shreaded cotton fabric, soaked in good quality phenolic resin. The hardness of fibre wheel is higher than the hardness of HP-1 wheels . As a result, the chances of steel burr lying on the shop floor getting embedded in the wheel surface are remote. The acidic or alkaline chemicals have little effect on these wheels. Hardness of wheels : (90 + 5)on Shore D scale Maximum working temperature : 170°C (Normal Compound) : 270°C (Special Compound)

wheels

CAST IRON WHEEL (CI)
(Range : 50 x 25 mm To 300 x 75 mm) These are bare cast iron wheels made from good quality graded castings, machinable & free of blowholes. They have very high load carrying capacity. Suitable for high temperature applications likes ovens, foundries etc. The only disadvantage of CI wheels is that they damage the costly smooth floor surface. Grade of casting : FG 200 as per IS-210 Hardness of casting : (175 + 5)BHN Maximum working temperature : 250°C

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BRACKETS

wheels

Light Duty Swivel Brackets [SW(LD)] and Light Duty Swivel Brackets with a peg (i.e. stud or pin) for inserting in a pipe [SW (LD-PG)] are manufactured from tested (IS : 2062) M.S. sheets. Both base plate and revolving top are first blanked on mechanical press & then formed on hydraulic press. The sides of bracket are embossed for additional strength. The components are first buffed and then zinc plated for elegant look. Steel balls are accommodated in grooves on base plate and the revolving top. The base & revolving top are assembled together with a king pin. Steel balls are provided between revolving top and washer below the king pin nut for smooth rotation of revolving top. Plastic ring is provided around the steel balls in order that outside dirt does not reach steel balls easily. Construction of peg type swivel brackets [SW (LD-PG)] is similar to the plate type brackets except that instead of a base plate, a cup is used to accommodate steel balls and the king pin is an integral part of the peg. Matching Light Duty Fixed Brackets [ FX(LD) ] are also available.

wheels

Medium Duty Swivel Brackets [SW (MD)] are manufactured from tested M.S. plates [IS : 2062]. Brackets upto the size 200x50 (as per list given below) have one piece construction. Both base & revolving top are either blanked on mechanical press or profile gas cut and then formed on a hydraulic press. Sides of bracket are embossed for additional strength. Ball races for steel balls are also formed on a hydraulic press. The base and revolving top are assembled together with a specially manufactured round head bolt which acts as a king pin. Steel balls are provided between revolving top and washer below the king pin nut for smooth rotation of revolving top. The swivelling action is like a thrust bearing. Since the grooves for steel balls are formed on hydraulic press, the consistency of dimensions and finish of grooves are assured for smooth swivelling action. [Some other manufacturers of brackets cut the grooves for steel balls on lathe. As a result, the thickness of plate below grooves reduces and the bracket becomes weak]. Medium Duty Fixed Brackets [FX (MD)] up to the size 200x50 have also one piece construction. The pieces are either blanked on mechanical press or profile gas cut and formed in hydraulic press. Sides of the brackets are embossed for additional strength and finally zinc plated for elegant look.
Sizes of Brackets having } 50x25, 75x25, 77x32, 100x32, 100x50,
one piece construction } 125x32, 125x50, 150x50, 200x50.

wheels

Medium Heavy Duty Swivel Brackets [SW (MHD)] are fabricated from profile pieces gas cut from 20 mm. & 25 mm. thick M.S. plates. 10mm dia. steel balls are accommodated in ball race on ID of base & OD of the circle, which rotates. The base & circle are interlocked with steel balls. Side arms are welded to the revolving circle. The side arms are embossed for extra strength. Matching Fixed Brackets [FX (MHD)] are similar to medium duty fixed brackets described above.

wheels

Heavy Duty Swivel Bracketsare of two types - (HD-C) & (HD-F). In case of Swivel Bracket (HD-C), the base is EN-9 steel forging. The revolving part is M.S. ring. Steel balls are accommodated in ball race on OD of base & ID of the ring. The base & ring are inter locked with steel balls. The side arms are pressed in half round shape and welded to the ring. In case of swivel brackets (HD-F) both the base and revolving part are EN-9 steel forgings. Steel balls are accommodated in ball race on OD of base forging and ID of the forging that rotates. The base forging & revolving forging are interlocked with steel balls. The side arms are riveted to the revolving part for castors suitable for wheels of 50 mm width. The side arms are welded to the revolving part for castors suitable for wheels of 75 mm. width. Matching Fixed brackets [FX (HD)] are similar to medium duty fixed brackets described above except that the thickness of plates used is higher. Brackets suitable for wheels having 50 mm. width have one piece construction and formed on hydraulic press. However, brackets suitable for wheels having 75 mm. width have welded construction. Please note that overall height of (HD-C) and (HD-F) swivel brackets is same. Therefore fixed bracket [FX(HD]match both (HD-C) & (HD-F) swivel brackets.

DETAILS OF CASTOR ASSEMBLY

wheels

Half thread bolt is manufactured specifically to suit castor assembly. The central bush on which a wheel rotates is hardened (25 to 30 RC) and accurately ground ( + 0.02 mm) for longer life of castor assembly. Dust preventive caps or full thread guards are provided in all the castors to prevent dust & foreign particles entering the bearing area. This gives smooth running of wheels over longer period. Spring washers are provided on either side of bolt to prevent loosening of nut due to shocks in running conditions. Nylock nut or castle nut & cotter pin can also be provided as an extra precaution.
